Ethics Scrapbook Paper - 1381 Words

As a team we were assigned the project of creating an ethical scrapbook, along with an accompanying paper. So the purpose of this paper is to expand on the information contained within our team scrapbook. More precisely we will be answering a set of four ethical questions, which we as a group have taken the time to sit down and discuss. Our first question and issue discussed deals with the subject Good Samaritan. As a team we had to decide should all jurisdictions have a Good Samaritan law requiring an individual to help another if they are able. With the exception of our dear sweet teammates Richard, this question was a definite no brainier for our team. Without thought or time wasted debating one another, we all agree (except†¦show more content†¦As a whole we feel that no, vigilantism should not be permitted when the criminal justice system fails. For the most part we feel this way because we think that individuals would use this as an excuse to take the law into their o wn hands. However we do all agree that there are certain situations when vigilantism seems justified. Take for example this story shared with us by our group member Tony: An 84 year old World War II veteran was a victim of two home invasions and was assaulted twice. The police who patrolled the area could not catch the neighborhood thugs. The 84 year old vet had had enough. The four neighborhood thugs broke in for a third time but the outcome was different. The neighborhood thugs were trapped in the house and the 84 year old vet shot all four, one thug died. The 84 year old vet was not charged by the prosecutors office. Quietly I cheered for the 84 year old vet (Potts, 2007, Personal Statement). Next we were asked, historically (in our opinion) has civil disobedience been effective in changing the law. Our teammate Nechelle had this to say, In my opinion civil disobedience has not been very effective in changing the law. I say this solely due to the fact that I cannot think of any laws that have been changed mainly due to someone that has violated that particular law (Holloway, 2007, Personal Statement). This includes a higher suicidal behavior, which involves these teens that have no homes to participate in taking drugs to the extent of overdosing and purposely getting involved in car accidents (Gregory Kamieniecki, 2009). A sample of youths who had no homes was interviewed, specifically about living and family histories and their experiences of under such conditions. The sample was a quick large number of 364 homeless adolescents. Lack of homes amongst youths comes from distressed backgrounds. It is different for both gender; boys and girls, for boys its usually histories that include physical abuse in their childhood. It could also contain physical assault on the street. For girls, it an entirely different case compared to the boys. Their histories involve sexual abuse throughout their childhood. These histories have influenced their mentality in a negative manner (Ana et al., 2000). A recent research was conducted, and it suggested that nearly one-third of the population of youths with no residence suffer from mental illnesses (Levine et al., 1990). A study was done in Melbourne and found that 30 percent of their sample had mental health complications. On the other hand, 43% had substance use difficulties (Mental Health Council of Australia.2009). The Victorian government framework will provide housing assistance to the youth with no residential homes in Victoria. These are the support innovative they offer to bring to help the homelessness. This includes building a service system that will meet a variety of requirements for these victims. However, the system will enable homeless to be able to access help especially when they are in needed. Theses interventions and prevention have a positive influence towards the situation of having no homes. Therefore, Victorians will get better housing opportunities results from a way that will suit individuals as well as fami lies (Victoria State government, 2015). Furthermore, these are the homelessness policies the Victorian government has sent additional $1 billion in programs towards supporting the youth facing lack of homes. There is convenient funding help to individuals in disaster, and as a result, it helped 120000 households in the past two years. Lastly, the government of Victorian is working diligently in collaboration with the community of Commonwealth to average persons undergoing homelessness in Victoria as well as the entire country of Australia.
